During the "Gothic in the Ile-de-France" NEH Summer Seminar

Description

The goal of the Andrew W. Mellon New Media Program is to provide hands-on and intensive new media technology experience to participants of Professor Stephen Murray's NEH Summer seminar "Gothic in the Ile-de-France." Learning will focus on the use of video and web applications in creating course curricula and curriculum resources, providing the participants another lens through which to see and understand the monuments. In addition to working at Notre-Dame de Paris, participants will explore pre-Gothic and Gothic sites in Vézelay, Cluny, Moulins, Paray-le-Monial and Bourges. Participants will work in small groups in a flexible and intensive fashion. Learning will take place at monuments, lodgings and computer facilities. Both in Paris and while traveling, Program participants will view and discuss examples of new media resources that demonstrate current possibilities for the use of technology in education. Participants will be expected to prepare curriculum "scripts" (text and images) prior to the beginning of the Program. New Media participants will be identified on the basis of interest. Prior to the seminar, the Program Producer will conduct conversations with participants in order to gauge their interest in technology, and to learn about the uses of technology at their institutions.
